Justin Franz is a writer and photographer based in Missoula, Montana. Originally from Augusta, Maine, he moved west in 2007 to attend the University of Montana, where he is currently studying journalism in one of the most acclaimed programs in the country.
Currently Franz is an Arts and Outdoors reporter for the Montana Kaimin, the student run, independent paper of the University of Montana. He has also served as a news contributor for Railroads Illustrated Magazine since 2007.
His award-winning photography has been featured in a variety of national and regional railroad magazines including Trains Magazine, Railpace Newsmagazine, Passenger Train Journal and Railroad Explorer. His images have also appeared in numerous railroad books including Alcos Northeast, Bangor and Aroostook: The Life of a Maine Railroad Tradition and Rails Across New England - Volume One
